LaVerne Hueston
LaVerne has always enjoyed arts and crafts. Several years ago she dabbled in oils, then took classes in drawing and watercolor, and now is interested in working with pastels. Since her retirement she has been able to spendd more time on her art and has decided to specialize in portraits, mostly of children and pets (from photographs). Some of the wall of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center in Black Mountain have some of her graphic art from when she worked there.
LaVerne met her husband in high school in Michigan, married and started their family, later they moved to northern Ontario, Canada. After living in the frigid cold for seven years they returned to Michigan but the lure of warmer weather brought them to the mountains of North Carolina and Black Mountain in 1987.
